Caitlin Jones
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University of Sydney
Dr Caitlin Jones is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health at The University of Sydney. Her research focusses on evaluating the benefits and harms of treatments for musculoskeletal conditions with a particular interest in high-risk treatment options such as opioid medicines and spinal cord stimulators for pain. Her research has influenced practice (e.g. the World Health Organization recommend against opioids for low back pain based on her first author Lancet opioid trial) and policy (e.g. the Therapeutic Goods Administration launched a post market review of spinal cord stimulators in response to her findings on harms). Dr Jones was a finalist for Research Australia’s ‘Discovery’ award in 2023, and was awarded the Australian Pain Society’s ‘Rising Star’ award in 2025. Ultimately, Dr Jones aims to improve the outcomes for people with musculoskeletal pain by providing evidence that guides practice toward providing the safest, most effective treatments.
